BENGALURU:
Sumit Nagal hit his forehand, hard and true, passing Yuki Bhambri for the winner. It was fitting that the biggest achievement of his senior career so far came off his own racket. In a show of controlled aggression, Nagal entered his maiden ATP Challenger final with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Yuki at the Bengaluru Open here on Friday.
The 20-year-old was in his element on the day, hitting deep with good spin and covering the court, all hustle and bustle, finding winners with ease.
Yuki, on the other hand, struggled to find his touch, often choosing to play it safe. When he did try to end points quicker, Nagal made sure to return deep and keep the pressure on the senior pro, whose game was littered with unforced errors. The 25-year-old also had his serve broken six consecutive times.
Earlier Briton Jay Clarke defeated Tsung-Hua Yang 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the final. In the doubles final, Mikhail Elgin and
Divij Sharan trounced Ivan and Matej Sabanov 6-3, 6-0.
